Will & Katie’s Summer Wedding in Chelmsford

Some wedding days just have that feeling from the moment you arrive. The kind where the atmosphere is full of excitement, laughter, and a little bit of “this is going to be a good one”. Will and Katie’s wedding at Channels Estate in Chelmsford was exactly that.
Set in the beautiful Essex countryside, Channels Estate is one of those wedding venues that really does have everything. From the stunning grounds and elegant spaces to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, it’s a dream location for couples wanting a wedding day that feels special but still completely them. It’s the kind of place where every corner gives you another excuse to pick up the camera.
And then there’s the incredible Channels Retreat onsite, honestly, the perfect spot for bridal preparations. It gives brides the space to relax, spend time with their favourite people, and enjoy those quiet morning moments before the whirlwind begins.
For Katie, that morning was filled with excitement, but the one thing that stood out more than anything was her smile. I’m not sure I’ve ever met someone who smiled quite as much as Katie did. From the moment I arrived, right through to the moment she walked down the aisle (and beyond), she had the biggest, happiest smile. The kind of smile that makes photographing a wedding incredibly easy because it tells the whole story by itself.
One of the amazing things about Will and Katie choosing to both get ready at Channels Estate was being able to move between the two of them throughout the morning. While Katie was getting ready at Channels Retreat surrounded by all the bridal excitement, Will was preparing onsite too, meaning I could capture both sides of the story as the nerves, laughs, and anticipation built.
And Will’s morning had a pretty special detail of its own. He wore a kilt in his family colours, something that meant a huge amount to him and added such a personal touch to his wedding day. It wasn’t just about looking incredible (although he absolutely did) it was about carrying a piece of family history with him as he married Katie.
The ceremony itself took place outside, and the weather couldn’t have been better. Blue skies, beautiful light, and the perfect Essex summer atmosphere made the outdoor setting at Channels Estate feel like it was made for them.
The whole day was filled with those moments you hope for as a wedding photographer the genuine laughs, the emotional hugs, the little glances between the couple, and all the moments happening naturally around them.
The speeches brought plenty of emotion (and a few moments where everyone needed to pretend they weren’t tearing up), with heartfelt words that showed exactly how loved Will and Katie are by the people around them.
As the sun went down, the celebrations moved into the evening and the atmosphere stepped up another level. Under the lights of the dance floor, the party really came alive, exactly how every great wedding evening should end. Happy people, great music, and a couple who looked like they never wanted the day to finish.
